The reason I’m drinking illegal beer
August 16, 2008Missy and Jen are in Baker City, eating tasty pies and ….
well….
sleeping.
They ditched Bend and the husbands, kids, and dogs, and jumped into a hot lil’ red convertible to visit the exciting town of Baker.
For those of you reading that live in Baker City, you can hear the sarcasm. For those of you who haven’t visited Baker City, COME VISIT ME so that I have an excuse to sneak out of work early to drink BEER!
I can’t begin to explain how cool it is to have Girl Talk for a couple of hours. I work so much, and have no friends here. Being able to sit back, relax, sip a brew and just talk for awhile was like a full-body massage to my soul.
I took off from work tonight at about 8:30, and met the gals at Barley’s (new website *finally, Tyler! I’ve bitched about it enough, eh?*, with more to come) for some brews. I felt my neck for the first time in weeks; it actually loosened up and allowed me to move it from side to side. Relaxed. Nice.
We parted ways about an hour ago, and when I got home I was disappointed to find that we had no beer at the house….
except for the two bottles that Whitey and I smuggled from the Bahamas a couple of years ago.
The label reads: “Kalik – Beer of the Bahamas – Premium-Quality”. The stamp on the neck says that it should be enjoyed by July of 2007. Hmmm. Better late than never.
I popped one open, and am now enjoying it’s skunky macro-beer goodness while watching the sprinkler saturate our crispy lawn.
Life is still pretty good.
Thanks Jen n’ Missy. You’ve made my month just by being.

OK, maybe we need to bite the bullet and load Ben up in the Jeep and head on over.
BTW, Ben LOVES that talking butterfly. He coos at it and tries to imitate it.
Awww… it was good to see you, too! I’ve got tears in my eyes now. Just like when we watched Michael Phelps give his flowers to his mom after winning that amazing 8th gold medal. Enjoyed the pizza, charmed by the town, and loved the girl time. Hope we can do it again! (But maybe in May or October next time instead of over the hottest frakkin’ weekend of the year.)
And to everyone who reads this blog, but hasn’t tried the pie? Totally worth the drive. Get thee to Baker and try it, mmkay?
It was SO MUCH FUN to get to meet you! Can’t wait to visit again!
OMG, you must ship a half-baked pizza to us. Just so we can see how it works; we’ll be your quality control.
Mr. LT is peeved I didn’t come home with a pie for him. I am too! Should have waited the extra hour before leaving town!!
SO DAMN GOOD to hang with you!! xoxo
