Fly on the wall

If you want to know what’s really going on at your place of business, listen in when you’re not around.

Then change your business plan accordingly.

I guess you were right, JB. Maybe we shouldn’t be so friendly.

Bummer.

    Care to explain?

Sigh. I like your style, and I don’t want you to change. However, if you want to inspire loyalty, forget the trips and begin a VERY SMALL profit sharing program.

In my limited experience, loyalty comes from having “skin” in the game. Once employees realize their future is tied to yours, you won’t need to be friends — you’ll be “partners.”

Last unsolicited advice: Take your own vacations with Whitey. You two deserve (and need) it. Don’t make them work-related IN ANY WAY.

Much love and wishes for an even more successful 2010!!!!!!!
